How to add a free certificate to your Wordpress site.

  • First, login to cPanel.
  • Second, scroll down to Lets Encrypt™ SSL under the "SECURITY" section, or search for it using the search bar.
  • Third, scroll down to "Issue a new certificate" and search for the domain to your website. Once you found it click "+ Issue"
  • Fourth, now is the time where you select what domains/sub-domains the SSL should cover.
    • Usually you will include the WWW version of your domain and the cPanel subdomains.
    • For the validation method, we recommend dns-01 if you are pointing your name servers to us.
    • Below is what your configuration should look like:
  • Finally, hit issue and you should be complete.
    • Note, if you have an error, switch from DNS validation to HTTP validation. If you continue to get an error make sure you have give your domain enough time to propagate (usually up to 6 hours but can be as much as 72). If you are still having issues after the domain has propagated, submit a support ticket.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • This DOES NOT force your site to use the SSL. To make your site use the SSL you need to setup a redirect. The easiest way on Wordpress is to install a plugin to do this for you.
    • Our go to plugin for this is: Really Simple SSL
    • For other platforms we recommend changing the URL you used in Installatron from http to https.
    • You can also use a .htaccess method to do this. However, if you don't know what that means, we don't recommend you mess with your .htaccess yourself. If you would like to use this method and are unsure how to do it, submit a support ticket.
  • This SSL is NOT sufficient for eCommerce or sensitive personal data!!! If you need to process this information YOU MUST get an SSL with assurance.
  • Your domain must be fully propagated to install an SSL of any kind! This usually takes less than 6 hours but can take up to 72 hours. This is out of our control, it not possible for us or any other host to speed this up.
